Smack dab in the middle of hot dog season is a day to celebrate the frankfurter: National Hot Dog Day, which falls this year on Wednesday, July 16.
The time between Memorial Day and Labor Day is considered “hot dog season,” according to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council. Consumers buy about 38% of the year’s hot dogs during that time, amassing sales of $1.16 billion, estimates the group.
During the pandemic, the council designated the third Wednesday in July – also known as National Hot Dog Month – as the day to celebrate the American classic.
Americans consume about 7 billion hot dogs during “hot dog season,” or about 818 hot dogs every second, the council says.

National Hot Dog Day deals
- 7-Eleven: Through July 22, members of the 7Rewards and Speedy Rewards loyalty programs can get Big Bite hot dogs for $2.
- Circle K: Get two roller grill hot dogs for $1 in the Circle K app. (Offer good for 2 roller grill hot dogs, each coupon or reward can only be used once, while supplies last.)
- Dog Haus: The gourmet hot dog chain is marking its 15th anniversary with an extended celebration. Members of its Haus Rewards loyalty program can get one free Haus Dog per person on July 16. Then, July 17-31, Haus Rewards members can redeem a deal to buy one, get one Haus Dog free (deals good for registered Haus Rewards members; one-time use offer, while supplies last).
- Shake Shack: For $8, get two classic hot dogs or limited-time Flat Top Dogs with topping choices of Angus beef chili, fried pickles, chopped bacon, melted cheese and crispy onions. The offer is available through Aug. 11 and is good in-store and for delivery or pick-up via the Shake Shack Mobile App or shakeshack.com.
- Sheetz: From July 16 through July 22, get two free hot dogs when you buy 10 gallons of gas or more in a single transaction. Get the offer in the Sheetz app under the OFFERZ tab.
- Sonic Drive-In: The rest of the month, you can get bargains for National Hot Dog Month in the Sonic App: a $1 Corn Dog, $2 All-American Dog or $3 Footlong Quarter Pound Coney (each redeemable weekly).
- True Story: On July 16, buy one 6-pack bundle of True Story Organic Grass-Fed Uncured Hot Dogs ($49.99 and get another one free. To get the offer, enter HOTDOGS at checkout when you order online (one per customer). Shoppers will also automatically be entered to win a free supply of hot dogs.
- Wienerschnitzel: The hot dog chain has a deal on July 16 for four Chili Dogs for $4. (Original Chili Dogs only; no substitutions, cheese and tax extra. Offer good at participating locations; must buy multiples of 4 for sale price.)
