Tropical moisture is expected to move into the Houston area Sunday. That could lead to a repeat of what we saw earlier this week.
HOUSTON — While Tropical Depression 2 is expected to move into Mexico, it could send plenty of rain towards the Houston area. We could see heavy downpours and flooded roads, which is why the KHOU 11 Weather Team has issued an hourly Weather Impact Alert for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
During that time, street flooding will be a significant risk, especially if a slow-moving storm stalls over a neighborhood or major roadway.
According to Chief Meteorologist David Paul, rain chances will climb to 70% on Sunday, with thunderstorms capable of producing extremely high rainfall rates.
“We’re going to have the potential to have these incredibly high rainfall rate thunderstorms,” Paul said. “They may last 45 minutes. That’s it, come and go, but they could dump 2, 3, 4 inches of rain in 45 minutes to an hour and overwhelm the primary drainage.”

Earlier this week, heavy rain turned Westheimer near Chimney Rock into “Lake Westheimer” for about an hour. A similar scenario could happen again Sunday.

Rain chances will decrease slightly heading into the new work week, dropping to 40% on Monday and 30% on Tuesday.
Drivers are urged to monitor the forecast closely and have the KHOU 11 app ready to receive warnings
