Red Deer Rebels forward Matthew Gard selected in Round 2 at NHL Draft


Red Deer Rebels forward Matthew Gard has taken a major step in his hockey career.

The six-foot-five, 192-pound centre was selected in the second round, 57th overall, by the Philadelphia Flyers at the NHL Draft on Saturday, June 28.

The Winnipeg, Man. native recorded 19 goals and 17 assists in 66 games during the 2024-25 season. He also recorded a goal and assist during the most recent IIHF U18 World Championship for Team Canada.

The first round of the NHL Draft was held on the evening of Friday, June 27, with the remainder of the draft occurring the following day. The draft was held in Los Angeles, California.
