YoCrunch yogurt products have been removed from local store shelves by the Department of Public Health and Social Services Division of Environmental Health due to the possible presence of plastic pieces from the dome topper, or the plastic cover.
DEH said in a news release Tuesday that the products were available at the Happy Mart stores in Barrigada and Harmon and were immediately pulled.
“Happy Mart is coordinating with the manufacturer for the return or disposal of the recalled products,” DEH said.
According to a news release from YoCrunch, the voluntary recall was initiated on July 11 and is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
“Consumer complaints have reported the presence of plastic pieces in the toppers, which have the potential to cause choking. The plastic pieces are transparent, may have sharp edges, and could present a risk to consumers because some pieces are between 7 and 25 mm in length,” the YoCrunch release stated.
DEH said it has not received any local reports of illnesses associated with the use of these potentially affected products.
“Individuals who may have consumed the product and developed symptoms are encouraged to contact their primary health care provider,” DEH said.
Danone, the U.S. makers of YoCrunch, said consumers who have questions or need additional information on refunds should contact the YoCrunch consumer care line at 877-344-4886. Consumer care specialists are available to speak live Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time, the company said.
DEH said it continues to conduct its recall effectiveness check activities and will update the public as more information is obtained.
