Netflix cancels popular series after just one season

LOS ANGELES (CNN/CNN Newsource/WKRC) — Netflix canceled a popular series after just one season.

Netflix has decided not to renew freshman series “The Residence.”

The murder mystery series featured Uzo Aduba as a quirky private investigator.

The show was initially planned as an anthology series, with each season presenting a new case.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “The Residence” premiered on March 20, 2025, quickly climbed the ranks to become Netflix’s second most-watched show during its debut week, trailing only behind the popular series “Adolescence.”

Despite having just four days of availability in the week ending March 23, the show maintained its position in the standings the following week. Although “The Residence” began to slip in viewership after that, it remained in Netflix’s top 10 for an additional two weeks, per the outlet.
