NBA 2K26 Summer League: Unbeaten Hornets swarm Spurs as Kon Knueppel stars

LAS VEGAS – Kon Knueppel and KJ Simpson tallied 19 points each to lead the Charlotte Hornets to a 106-81 win over the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA 2K26 Summer League at Thomas and Mack Center on Thursday evening.

The game got out to a competitive start with multiple lead changes through the first quarter, and the Hornets held a one-point edge heading into the second. The momentum shifted in the second quarter, as the Hornets took full control by outscoring the Spurs 34-13 in the frame and then by another 10 points in the third, to claim a 32-point cushion by the beginning of the final quarter. The Spurs turned up their play again in the fourth, but it was too little, too late, as the Hornets cruised to the big win, clinching a spot in the playoff semifinals.

The Hornets were efficient as a team, hitting 52.1% from the field, with Knueppel going 7-for-13, including 3-for-8 from deep, and Simpson going 6-for-11, including 2-for-5 from long range. Damion Baugh also came up large with 18 points, seven rebounds, six assists, three steals and a block. Jaylen Sims, MJ Walker and PJ Hall each scored in double digits for the winners.

Meanwhile, Harrison Ingram led the Spurs with 17 points on 6-for-12 shooting, four rebounds, one assist and a steal in 24 minutes of action. Carter Bryant followed up with 16 points, five rebounds, three assists and two blocks, while David Jones Garcia racked up 12 points, nine rebounds, four assists and a steal.
