Nashville SC routed the Columbus Crew 3-0 in its most recent game, bouncing back from a defeat to Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami that ended a15-match unbeaten streak. Now it looks to start a new one.
Nashville (13-5-5, 44 points) hosts Toronto FC (5-11-6, 21 points) on July 19 at Geodis Park in the second matchup between the two teams this season. In the first, Sam Surridge scored two goals as NSC won 2-0 at BMO Field on May 24.
Surridge, who leads MLS with 17 goals (one ahead of Messi), as well as fellow All-Stars Hany Mukhtar and Andy Najar, have Nashville fully in the race for the Supporters’ Shield, which is awarded to the team with the best regular season record. NSC is two points behind the Philadelphia Union and one behind FC Cincinnati.
Toronto sits in 12th place in the Eastern Conference, nine spots behind Nashville, but has played better of late. It’s 2-2-1 in its last five games, including a 1-0 win over San Diego FC on July 16.
