Luciano Darderi vs Jordan Thompson prediction
Luciano Darderi defeated British wildcard Arthur Fery in straight sets to make the third-round of a Grand Slam for the first time. Fery had dumped Alexei Popyrin out of the tournament in the first-round and did threaten at times, breaking the Darderi serve on a couple of occasions, but the Italian was always in control as he wrapped up a 6-3 6-3 6-4 win. The match resumed the following day after bad light had disrupted the contest with Darderi leading by two sets.
He now faces Aussie Jordan Thompson, who reached round three for the first time since 2021. He was involved in a second successive five set epic, as he came from two sets to one down to beat Benjamin Bonzi. Thompson won 7-5 6-7 4-6 6-2 6-4. He has been struggling with a back injury for much of this season but has managed to pull through in both matches in dramatic fashion.
Thompson is the more accomplished player on grass but doubts will remain over whether his body can get him through another Grand Slam encounter after two five-setters. This match is likely to last four or five sets, with no clear favourite.
