LA SAL, Utah (KUTV) — Residents in a small San Juan County town have been asked to evacuate due to a new wildfire in the area.
Officials said people along Deer Creek Road in La Sal should leave the area Thursday afternoon.
Kayli Guild, spokesperson for Utah’s Division of forestry, Fire and State Lands, said there were about 10 homes threatened. She did not have information about whether any homes had caught on fire.

It was not clear how many people were impacted by the evacuations. Anyone without a place to go has been advised to meet at the Community Center.
The fire exploded to 4,000 acres hours after it was first discovered around 1:40 p.m., according to Utah Fire Info. Officials announced that it had burned 50 acres at around 3 p.m. and released an update three hours later that it had grown to between 200 and 600 acres. By 10 p.m., Utah Fire Info reported that it reached 4,000 acres.
The public has been asked to avoid the area and residents to follow evacuation notices.
Details about the cause of the fire or the number of people impacted were not available.
Officials with the Utah Department of Transportation said State Route 46 has been closed in both directions about three miles east of La Sal.
Crews from Colorado State Patrol were called to the area to assist. La Sal sits about 12 miles from the Utah/Colorado border.
