Keith Urban disconnects from interview after Nicole Kidman love scenes question

Keith Urban abruptly disconnected from a call with radio hosts following a question about wife Nicole Kidman‘s love scenes with her male costars.

The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter called into Mix 102.3’s Hayley & Max in the Morning on Tuesday, the Australian radio program hosted by Hayley Pearson and Max Burford, to chat about his upcoming High and Alive World Tour and scheduled stop in Adelaide and sounded in good spirits. But when it came time for the show’s Wall of Truth segment, the segment hit a snag.

“I’m watching Keith Urban’s face while as we play the introduction to Wall of Truth and he’s like going, ‘What the bloody hell is this?’” Burford prefaced with a laugh.

“But you know, Wall of Truth, Keith, we often get put into this situation where we have to answer very tricky questions, deeply personal questions,” Pearson explained. “I get really uncomfortable to be honest, asking our beautiful guests that they might feel uncomfortable asking—”

Urban quipped, “What about the ugly ones?”

“Not you, Keith,” Burford said. who shared that he recently watched the Netflix rom-com A Family Affair, starring Kidman as a widowed writer who begins a risque relationship with her daughter’s movie star boss (played by Zac Efron), who is a much younger man. He then asked Urban what he thought when he would see his “beautiful wife with beautiful younger men like Zac Efron, having these beautiful love scenes?”

Burford then notes that the Zoom call had been disconnected.

Perhaps the pièce de résistance is the panicked back and forth between the co-hosts in the aftermath. “Did he just hang up on us?” Pearson asked.

“Were we told not to ask that?” Burford queried, adding, “But he was like, smiling,” in between Pearson’s “Oh my God!”s.

“Oh I knew that would happen!” Pearson said. “We’ve upset him.”

Burford said, “We haven’t upset Keith, have we? I thought we were vibing with Keith.” Pearson added, “Oh, no. He hates us.”

A rep for Urban declined to comment when reached by Entertainment Weekly on Tuesday for clarity on the dropped call. But an unnamed source has since clarified to PEOPLE that Urban “did not hang up, period,” adding, “He doesn’t host his Zoom interviews. This is a complete nothingburger.”

Mix 102.3 didn’t immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.

Kidman had intimate scenes with Efron in A Family Affair, the 2024 feature from director Richard LaGravenese that also starred Joey King and Kathy Bates. That same year, she also headlined the erotic thriller Babygirl opposite Harris Dickinson, playing a high-powered CEO who begins an affair with a much younger intern. She spoke about the intensity of the intimate scenes in that film with The Sun, sharing the “burnout” from filming.

“There was an enormous amount of sharing and trust and then frustration. It’s like, ‘Don’t touch me,’” Kidman said. “There were times when we were shooting where I was like, ‘I don’t want to orgasm any more. Don’t come near me. I hate doing this. I don’t care if I am never touched again in my life! I’m over it.’ It was so present all the time for me that it was almost like a burnout.”
