Ryan Alpert is being hired as the Georgia Tech athletics director after four years at Tennessee, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation.
The source requested anonymity because Alpert’s hire has not been made official.
Alpert spent the past year at Tennessee as the senior deputy athletics director and chief revenue officer, his third title in his time at UT. He has played a paramount part in all of Tennessee’s revenue-generating plans with a focus on amplifying resources. He has managed areas including capital projects, apparel deals and business and finance.
He was hired by Tennessee athletics director Danny White, joining the staff in August 2021 as the deputy athletics director and chief operating officer. He moved into a role as deputy athletics director of championship resources and chief revenue officer in November 2023.
The Columbia, South Carolina, native was the Missouri deputy athletics director for external operations for one season before he was hired at Tennessee. He previously served as deputy AD under Florida Atlantic athletics director Brian White, the brother of Danny White, from 2018-20.
At Georgia Tech, Alpert fills the athletics director role left vacant when Michigan State hired J Batt on June 13. MSU also hired Georgia Tech interim athletics director Jon Palumbo on July 7.
Alpert is a University of South Carolina graduate. He started in athletics an athletics advancement intern at Miami and then as an intern at South Carolina.
He got his master’s degree at Memphis, where he spent five years in three roles. He rose from assistant director of development to an assistant athletics director role. He worked in athletics fundraising at Memphis, including a capital campaign that raised $32.5 million over 18 months.
Alpert was hired at Missouri in Feb. 2016 as an associate athletics director and was promoted to senior associate athletics director for the final 18 months of his two-year tenure at Missouri.
At FAU, Alpert oversaw development, ticket sales, equipment staffs and strategic planning. He returned to Missouri for a 14-month stint before he was hired at Tennessee.
