Fireworks halted at Riverfront Park due to active shooter scare


SPOKANE, Wash. – The firework show at Riverfront Park was abruptly stopped soon after its 10 p.m. start time Friday night after reports of a possible active shooter spread panic among attendees.

Lieutenant Terry Preuninger of the Spokane Police Department (SPD) stated that police received reports of someone carrying a gun at the park. However, responding officers did not find or confirm anyone with a weapon.

Preuninger emphasized there was no confirmation of shots fired in the downtown area. Additionally, the Spokane Police Department later announced there was no active shooter.

A NonStop Local team member at the scene observed one person being detained by SPD near the clocktower in Riverfront Park. No further details about the detainment have been released by police.
