MIDLAND, Mich. (WJRT) – A Consumers Energy project to enhance electricity reliability in Midland will disrupt power in the area on the night of July 12.
The utility is planning to upgrade high-voltage distribution equipment south of U.S. 10 and east of Saginaw Road. About 2,000 homes and businesses will lose power from 11 p.m. July 12 to no later than 7 a.m. on July 13.
The work will be delayed to the night of July 19 in case of inclement weather on the July 12.
The project is part of Consumers Energy’s Reliability Roadmap aimed at reducing power outages across Michigan. It was planned for the overnight time period to avoid disruptions for customers.
“At Consumers Energy, we are dedicated to enhancing the resilience and efficiency of our electric grid. This HVD equipment maintenance work will ensure that our high-voltage distribution systems are in optimal condition,” said Chris Laird, vice president of electric distribution.
