Colorado Rockies game no. 90 thread: Shane Smith vs Chase Dollander

The Colorado Rockies have lost all 13 home series at Coors Field so far in the 2025 season, and 15 home series going back to last year after officially dropping the series against the Chicago White Sox last night. Now the 20-69 Rockies look to save a little face against the South Siders, who own the second worst record in baseball at 30-59. The White Sox have a full ten more wins than the Rockies.

On the mound for the Rockies is right-handed rookie Chase Dollander, who looks to rebound after a disastrous start his last time out. Dollander lasted just 2 23 innings—his shortest appearance of the season—while giving up six earned runs on seven hits and two walks against the Houston Astros. He struck out just one batter.

Dollander has struggled to strike out batters recently. He’s struck out two or fewer batters in four of his last six starts. He has also given up at least one home run in four of those same six games.

On the bump for the White Sox is right-handed rookie and Wake Forest product Shane Smith. Taken in the Rule-5 draft from the Milwaukee Brewers, Smith has been a solid contributor for the White Sox in his debut campaign, posting a 3.86 ERA through his first 16 starts and striking out 74 batters in 79 13 innings of work.

Smith features a strong 95 MPH four seam fastball with good run value that can make batters miss, and backs it up with a solid group of secondary pitches. His changeup features a whopping 33.2 inches of vertical drop and his 12-6 curveball carries a 43.3% whiff rate coming into today’s game. He also throws a slider and a sinker.
