Colorado Rockies game no. 89 thread: Jonathan Cannon vs. Germán Márquez

The Colorado Rockies (20-68) weren’t able to keep pace with the Chicago White Sox (29-59) on Friday as their bats were held in check by Adrian Houser. The Rockies’ pitching staff did the same, with a lone home run proving the difference maker. However, with a slightly struggling arm, the Rockies have a chance to get something started tonight behind their all-time strikeout leader.

Germán Márquez (3-9, 5.62 ERA) had himself quite the month of June. In six starts he posted a 2.97 ERA over 30 13 innings while striking out 29 against eight walks. It was classic Márquez that has placed him name among trade candidates that teams could be calling about this month. His last outing against the Milwaukee Brewers was a strong one as he allowed two runs on three his over 5 23 innings of work.

Jonathan Cannon (2-7, 4.59 ERA) has had a bit of a rough year for Chicago despite his numbers reflecting his stats from last season. The young righty recently came off the injured list on June 29 after missing most of the month. He was eased in during his last start against the San Francisco Giants, allowing one run on three hits over three innings with three walks and four strikeouts. His command has been quite shaky this season, and he won’t necessarily get a ton of strikeouts but the Rockies should be careful to not get overly aggressive at the plate and swing at bad pitches.
