Business responds to claims of animal abuse

Classy Critters Pet Resort & Spa said the employee involved in the alleged abuse no longer works with the business.

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — A pet grooming business in Mooresville has responded to claims of animal abuse after videos appeared to show one of its employees mistreating dogs.

Classy Critters Pet Resort & Spa addressed the situation on Facebook, calling the actions “unacceptable.” The employee involved in the situation is no longer employed at the facility, according to the post.

Videos posted on social media show the employee hitting the dogs and handling them aggressively during a grooming visit. WCNC Charlotte is working to obtain permission to use the videos from the person who filmed them. The person who made that post shared screenshots that appear to show the owner of Classy Critters retaliating against the person who reported the incident.

“I love and care deeply for all of them and it breaks my heart that this happened,” the owner of Classy Critters said in their post. “I hope that the actions of one bad egg does not reflect on Classy Critters and the entire staff.”

The post stated that the employee was reported to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office and the county’s animal control agency.

WCNC Charlotte attempted to call the business on Monday but was sent to an automatic response, which paraphrases the facility’s social media post.

The Mooresville Police Department and Iredell County Animal Services & Control confirmed to WCNC Charlotte that they are aware of the situation. The investigation is ongoing.

Classy Critters offers grooming, pet day care, and pet boarding services. On Monday, some customers said they were shocked to hear about the situation.

“Some of the staff members are just great people,” said one visitor. “I was in complete shock because we have been going there for three years.”
