Dodgers finish the 17th round with Missouri right-hander Sam Horn. It is a travesty the Red Sox didn’t get him, if only to please older fans everywhere.
From Keith Law’s beyond the top 100 scouting report: No relation to the former big leaguer and Red Sox legend, Horn has thrown just 15 innings over the past three years as a Tiger, missing 2024 after undergoing Tommy John surgery that February. He has big, big stuff, up to 98 on his four-seamer with good extension, good life on the sinker, and a tight slider with some sharp downward break. He has a changeup that’s promising but barely uses it. He’s also in the running to be Mizzou’s starting quarterback this fall, which may make him a tougher sign. He did attend the MLB Draft Combine, however, so he’s indicated some interest in playing pro baseball. With so little experience, he’s whatever you want him to be — you can dream on this package and see a mid-rotation starter, and who’s to argue?
