Houston Astros select LSU’s Ethan Frey in 2025 MLB Draft | LSU

LSU junior designated hitter Ethan Frey has been selected by the Houston Astros with the No. 95 overall pick in the third round of the 2025 MLB Draft.

Frey broke out in his third season with the Tigers this spring, posting a .331 batting average, 1.061 on-base plus slugging percentage and blasting 13 home runs in 62 games.

After being a bench player as a freshman and playing through a torn labrum as a sophomore, Frey emerged as a steady power option against left-handed pitching before expanding his role to start against pitchers from both the left and right side by the end of the year, eventually becoming a staple atop LSU’s lineup.

Frey is the fourth LSU player to be picked in the draft, joining sophomore left-hander Kade Anderson, redshirt sophomore right-hander Chase Shores and junior right-hander Anthony Eyanson.

As long as Frey signs with the Astros, LSU will have to replace his power in the lineup with High Point transfer Brayden Simpson and Kansas State transfer Seth Dardar, among others. The only returning Tiger who blasted more than 10 homers last season was sophomore Steven Milam with 11.
