In her televised WWE debut match, Blake Monroe teamed with Jordynne Grace to defeat Fatal Influence’s Jacy Jayne and Fallon Henley at NXT Great American Bash on Saturday.
TNA women’s champion Masha Slamovich made a surprise appearance during the match to neutralize Fatal Influence member Jazmyn Nyx, and Monroe took advantage by pinning Jayne for the win.
Prior to arriving in WWE last month, Monroe spent about a year and a half in AEW under the name Mariah May. She held the AEW Women’s World Championship for 174 days and was part of arguably the greatest women’s storyline in AEW history with Toni Storm.
When Monroe debuted on the June 3 episode of NXT, she did so by interrupting Jayne, who had just won the NXT Women’s Championship by beating Stephanie Vaquer one week earlier.
Monroe officially signed her WWE NXT contract a couple of weeks later, but the segment was interrupted by Fatal Influence, and it ended with Jayne and Henley putting The Glamour through a table.
That same week, a modified tournament to determine the No. 1 contender for Jayne’s NXT women’s title began on NXT as well.
Grace, Jaida Parker, Lash Legend and Izzi Dame all won first-round matches to advance to the Fatal 4-Way No. 1 contender’s match, and Grace was victorious on the June 24 episode of NXT to earn an NXT women’s title match against Jayne at Evolution.
One week later, Grace cut a promo about the importance of competing at Evolution and potentially winning the NXT Women’s Championship when she was interrupted by Fatal Influence.
Jayne and Henley launched a two-on-one attack, which led to Monroe running down to the ring to even the odds and run Fatal Influence off.
NXT general manager Ava closed out the show by announcing that Grace and Monroe would team up against Jayne and Henley at Great American Bash, just one day before Evolution.
With Monroe and Grace picking up the victory on Saturday, it figures to give Grace a ton of momentum entering her NXT women’s title match against Jayne on Sunday.
