This Is Us star Chrissy Metz has an important message for her fans: step out of your comfort zone and do things you’re afraid to do. Metz, who recently penned the children’s book When I Talk to God, I Talk About My Feelings, shared the powerful message in a social media video she filmed after braving her first Pilates class—alone.
Metz, 44, famously played Kate Pearson on the emotional drama This Is Us, part of the show’s “Big Three,” which included Sterling K. Brown’s Randall and Justin Hartley’s Kevin. Metz became an icon in the body-positive movement for her portrayal of Kate, who openly struggled with her weight on the show.
But Metz’s message here wasn’t about weight loss or beauty. Instead, the actress made a more important point: don’t be afraid to try new things. And fans thought she looked amazing doing it.
She said of her inaugural Pilates class, “I felt so silly because I was like, ‘Oh, what spring is this? What does that do?’ Just flip-flopping like a fish, and whatever. But the victory was that I did it. The victory was that I went. I tried. I faced my fears.”
The actress continued, “If you’re thinking about Pilates: just do it. Just do it—even if you fumble through it, even if you feel like you look awkward. Who cares? Nobody’s great out of the gate, right? So yeah, I encourage you to do the things that scare you, the things that get you out of your comfort zone—because you just never know. You never know how it could change your life.”
