SALT LAKE CITY – Jaylen Wells and GG Jackson poured in 20 points each to lead the Memphis Grizzlies to a 92-80 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Salt Lake City Summer League on Saturday at Jon M. Huntsman Center.
Ajay Mitchell helped get the Thunder off to a strong start, delivering 16 points on 6-for-10 shooting in the first, while Grizzlies counterpart Jaylen Wells also set an early tone with 12 points (3-7 FGs, 5-5 FTs) before the break.
Mitchell kept the momentum going and finished with a game-high 24 points on 10-for-18 shooting in 27 minutes of action. However, GG Jackson stepped up in the second half to help give the Grizzlies the overwhelming edge, as his efforts combined with those of Wells were enough to lead the charge. Cam Spencer also turned in a strong performance for the Grizzlies, with 14 points, five rebounds, five assists and a steal. Javon Small added a game-high-tying six assists, matched by the Thunder’s Mitchell.
Oklahoma City’s 6-foot-6 guard, Nikola Topic accumulated a notable stat line, with 14 points, four assists and two steals, while Brooks Barnhizer racked up nine points, a game-high 13 rebounds, a steal and a block.
The Thunder’s next game is Monday against the Philadelphia 76ers (7 ET, ESPN), while the Grizzlies’ next tilt is also Monday against the Jazz (9 ET, NBA TV).
